What the purpose of the above calculations is to determine whether the heat transfer from the hot glycol to the pipe is a significant portion of the overall heat transfer coefficient or if it can be neglected . Once an overall heat transfer is known for tubing lengths, you can also see if the dT of the glycol along the length is significant and has to be taken into account. If it is, it would be a good reason to limit the tracer lengths on more critical tracing applications.
